“Impossible to complain about anything”
We honeymooned at Riu from 9/15-9/21. We were looking for all inclusive and it was a toss up between this and Occidental which seemed to have similar reviews. The hotel is practically brand new and it shows. I didnt get that hollywood movie set impression that some places give, where you take a good look at the walls and decor around you see its all some bullshit facade that dosent pass close muster. You can tell they didnt spare expense in hotel construction, except for the hard mattresses. The lobby and grounds were always well kept and every interaction with staff I had was pleasant and accommodating. The actual restaurants were decent enough, but the buffets were actually better. The choice of entrees and freshness of food was more than you could ask for. Ive worked in 'gourmet' restaurants as well as eating out more than my paycheck warrants and I cant imagine someone having real issue with the food served at the buffets. The only complaints that I have is without a laptop your going to pay at least $10 to use the computer for a few minutes each day to send an "OMG ARUBA!!!1111111111" email here and there or whatever. As far as having to reserve your beach spot yes, if your not out there by 7am dont bother trying to find a spot under the umbrella things. And for those of you who cant get up early enough youll find plenty of 'reserved' beach chairs that people dont use until sometime in the afternoon. Heres a tip, enjoy them until they people who reserved them show up. No reason to let a chair go unused from 9-2 just because someone left a towel on it. Were all entitled to use them. I cant really comment on the bar scene/nightlife there because I dont drink, but if you like playing dress up and cant wait to wear your island ensemble of capri slacks and sandals with untucked dress shirt, and have your wife in her 'totally cute' sundress, you guys will fit right in after dark. Its almost like everyone goes and changes into their 'uniform' at night. Pretty funny actually. Anyway for the price we paid we couldnt go wrong here. I dont think you could either.
