Palm Beach, Aruba is a city northwest of Oranjestad. Inhabited since the year 1000, Aruba is an island rich in history and culture. Eagle Beach is an idyllic Caribbean beach, with white sands and turquoise waters, and is frequented by water sports enthusiasts. Palm Beach, on the island's west side, offers perfect swimming conditions and powdery sand. Those more concerned with conditions under the waves won't want to miss the wreck of the torpedoed tanker Pedernales, a popular diving site. Aruba is only 20 miles long, thus easily explored by bike or moped. Aruba Grand Casino, Palm/Eagle Beach We have just returned from Aruba and had a wonderful stay at the Aruba Grand. I don't understand how anyone could complain about the staff, everyone we delt with was kind, helpful and accomodating. The rooms were older, but large with great views. The property was gorgeous and the grounds were perfect. The pool was huge and very clean. If you want to hang out with a bunch of drunk teenagers, have non stop stupid games going on, this is not your hotel. The Marriot and Hyatt seemed crowded with everyone sitting on top of eachother. We never had any problems getting a palapa and having lots of privacy.
We are windsurfers and The Aruba Grand was within easy walking distance to the windsurfing centers. We took the snorkel cruise on MI Dushi and it was a great trip with wonderful food and great crew.
We did not do the all-inclusive, but the food at the hotel was good. There are many restaurants nearby.
Aruba is a friendly, wonderful island and we have no complaints about our trip. ( you do really need to get to the airport 2 hours early, though) |

“Scuba diving as it should be” Eagle BeachIn the past, my dives have been off moderately sized boats with at least 10 people - the tanks lined up like soldiers on either side of the boat; Bonaire, Cozumel, Taba. Watermelon & fresh water served during the surface interval. I now call this "frills". I just came back from a trip to Aruba's Marriott Surf Club. I was on my own and previous to my trip emailed several dive shop's on the island. I didn't want to dive with a crowd this time - waiting for each person to jump in the water and then follow in repetative fashion, too many fins. I wanted something more personal. They each offered the same thing. However, the response and the tone of the email that I received from Jan at Aruba Watersports was just what I was looking for. He wrote to me that they only dive in small groups and asked ME where I would like to dive. Since I didn't know the island - I left it up to him. Aruba Watersports is located on the beach between the Occidental and The Radisson Hotels. Jan picked me up the first day by truck and brought me to the dive hut with all my gear - I left it overnight in the dive locker from that time on. We reviewed some basic diving information and went off to the water. We walked to a small pier with several RIB's (rigid inflatable boat) - the boat can hold 6 - but 3 comforatably. I put on my suit and walked to the boat that had a few tanks on the floor and the rest of my gear. I was the only client that day, so it was just me and my perfectly buoyant dive instructor - Jan. Gear up and roll back was done while sitting on the rubber inflated rim of the boat. Our first dive was the Perdernales wreck, and even though the depth is only 25' - there was more interesting sea life than I have ever seen. I won't go into the details of that. We we under for close to an hour. A fter the dive, re entry is Jan - who was already on the boat - taking my BC from me while in the water. Hoisting yourself up onto the boat rim - or climbing up the rudder to the back. I did that a few times, since I'm 51 - and hoisting is not what I was ready to do - but was able to figure it out (kicking with fins in the water and then pull up for push) During the surface interval we drank water from a jug and talked - there were no loud voices, no clanking tanks - nothing but the sunshine and the sea. This is what diving should be like. We continued to dive the rest of the week with one off shore dive. Jan was off for the weekend and Henri took over. Henri is extremely knowledgeable about marine life and diving -also perfectly buoyant dive instructor. I had such a wonderful experience diving with this crew. I learned a great deal - and saw fantastic marine life. They had wonderful personalities and actually cared about you and your dive experience. I can't wait to go back there and dive with Aruba Watersports - Jan and Henri - again.
