Kura Hulanda Spa and Casino is an exquisite resort village set above St. Anna Bay in Central Willemstad, at the heart of an environmental preservation project. Each of the 65 rooms and suites is individually painted by a local artist, and appointed with hand-made furnishings and hand-sewn bedspreads from India. The village itself, with its cobblestone walkways, is alive with art, history culture and nightlife.

“Personalized paradise in curacao”
After researching several hotels in Curacao, I decided to stay at Kura Hulanda. I wanted a specialty hotel versus the big chains I often stay in. I'm extremely happy I did.
The hotel is located on the Otrabanda side of Willemstad. It is in the heart of the tourist area which for me was a huge plus.
You can easily walk across the "floating bridge" and explore the shops, open market and several tourist attractions such as the synagogue, governer's home, and other unique buildings.
The hotel rooms were really comfortable furnished with antique furniture and updated marble bathrooms. Each one is unique and everyone I spoke to loved the bed and cleanliness. Mine had a small foyer, queen bed and large bathroom with tub/shower. The hotel is larger than it looks with a spa, two pools, three restaurants (yes, I tried them), business center and beautiful sculptures through out the property. Anita, a chef at Jacob's, makes a great Paella.
The hotel isn't attached to a beach, but they offer a shuttle every hour to one of their private beaches that was perfect. The ride only took about fifteen minutes and was worth it. You can also choose a day trip to their sister property on the west end of the island. Both beaches were clear with a lot of opportunity to take underwater pics while snorkeling. They also have bars and restaurants if you need a break from the sun.
The best part of the hotel was the service. When I arrived, I was handed a glass of punch and shown around the property. Any question I had, they were able to help me with. Although they don't provide a lot of tours, they can arrange anything you like. The wait staff was friendly and suggested items on the menus, the cleaning staff were timely in and out by noon. They even had turn down service leaving chocolates on my pillow. Great service!
You have to tour the slave museum at the hotel. Amazing!
I suggest renting a car for at least a day. I rented my car before I left the states thru Nat'l for $27.00/day and picked it up at the plaza hotel across the bridge. Even with the liability it was only $55.00, way cheaper than the tours and I drove to the Aquarium to swim with the dolphins and then all around the island stopping at several beaches and forts. Bring your own snorkel gear so you can take advantage of all of the beaches. Yes, some of them have tons of shells that can be tough on your feet so bring water shoes. My favorite beaches were Blue Bay and Knip. (Small intimate areas that aren't crowed making swimming and snorkeling very easy) Hook's Hut is crowded and more for partying and hanging out.
Only bad thing is the mosquitoes. Everyone I saw had several red bites on their body. No matter where you stay, bring the bug spray. The hotel let me burn a citronella candle in my room at night to keep them away.
As for the money, use your American dollars. Only a couple of times at some of the tourist shops do I think they charged more than they should have. Most locals speak English and are more than happy to help.
Enjoy your stay. I know I did! I'll go back to the hotel and Curacao!!!
