“Great hotel and a wonderful holiday”

We stayed at the Marriott for two weeks. It's been a great holiday at a fantastic hotel. Never having been to this island before, we wanted to try a different Dutch island. Aruba is a little too hectic and developed for us now and we heard a lot of good things about Curacao. It has not disappointed.
The Marriott is a great looking property and has a spectacular setting along the coast. The coral and fish you see when snorkeling are some of the best in the Caribbean. You can wade right in off the beach. You don't need beach shoes if you choose your place to get into the water. Otherwise, they give them to you for free. You should bring your own gear, however, as the rental is pricey.
We ate in The beach bar restaurant and Emeralds bar. We by-passed Portofino's, based on all the negative reviews on the board. However, there are plenty of other places to go close by and within either walking, or a short taxi distance away. Hooks Hut was especially good and romantic.
The room is great. It didn't need any updating as far as we were concerned. We asked for a mini-fridge and a room on the west-side. Both requests were honoured. Also, it was our 10th wedding anniversary. I ordered flowers for my wife, and the hotel added complimentary sparkling wine, fruit and enough cheese and rolls to eat for 5 days. Bravo!
The hotel runs a complimentary shuttle into town twice a day. It drops you off by the older swing bridge in the harbour. It was a very hot day when we went and we couldn't take the heat until the shuttle came back so we took a $12 taxi back to the hotel. Downtown is quaint, picturesque and the people were charming and friendly. Also, a man on the street directed us to the supermarket and would have taken us there if we had asked. We had no worries or problems.
The Marriott is highly recommended for couples of all ages. There is plenty to do for the younger crowd, including half-price happy hour in the evenings from 7 - 11 on the weekends. Regular happy hour is from 4:30 to 6 and they take 2 dollars off the price of the drinks.
We will definitely return to this hotel.
